Moisturizer / Skin Care

Moisturizer is the sole item that I have been using continuously. Even if eczema does not flare, moisturizing the skin is still the most important thing to do every day. If dry skin improves, I will not stop using moisturizer, instead, I will just apply a thin layer of moisturizer all over my body every time after shower. I have used many different types of moisturizers. In fact, the most effective one will be in the form of natural cream without any addition of fragrance or harmful alcohols. For instance, fatty cream or aqueous cream is a good choice and economical. In comparison, lotion contains more water than grease and often has perfumes or irritating alcohols which do not suit our sensitive dry skin. During the initial stages where the skin is very dry, emulsifying ointment is the best one to keep the skin hydrated. Greasier emulsifying ointments and aqueous creams hold more moisture while light watery lotions will evaporate easily. I only apply moisturizer right after shower (within 5 minutes). With cleansed damped skin, the greasy cream will serve as a protective layer to trap the moisture from escaping.

As an alternative and briefly mentioned earlier, fatty cream and non-ionic creams are recommended. The healthE fatty cream is specially formulated to make it suitable as supportive therapy in skin conditions that have previously been treated with more potent corticosteroids. The fatty cream is fragrance and color free and it does not contain sodium lauryl sulphate. Non-Ionic Cream (Cetomacrogol 1000 BP) is not so greasy and it is widely used as a base for the preparation of Hydrocortisone cream. I use three of those moisturizers interchangeably and all of them should be used at a daily basis even if eczema does not flare.

Skincerity®

Skincerity Fast Facts
Skincerity® rejuvenates the skin through a completely different and non-irritating process. Instead of breaking down your skin to induce cell turnover, Skincerity enhances the function of your skin by covering it with a very thin film. Because Skincerity is applied as a liquid, it forms perfectly to the contour of your skin as it dries, mimicking the outermost layer of skin. This process helps repair the daily damage that occurs, much like a Band-Aid® helps to heal a wound. Instead of the skin sensor signaling the lower skin layers to initiate a response to repair the surface damage, the signal is sent that the skin barrier is intact. In this way, Skincerity performs as your skin would, acting like skin for your skin. While you sleep, your skin remains protected while Skincerity works to restore its natural balance.

I haven't really tested this but it is like a moisturizer that will hold in the skin natural moisture. It contains Vitamin E and Grape Seed Oil as well. Dermatologist tested and recommended.
There are many testimonials and good reviews for this product from those who have dry skin and eczema. It will be a good topical supplement for eczema sufferer.

DermaVeen

A unique soothing lotion containing natural colloidal oatmeal that restores moisture and hydration to dry, scaly or sensitive skin. Ideal for all over body use. It relieves symptoms due to eczema, dermatitis, dry skin, nappy rash, minor burns and minor sunburns.

I've been using it for the past one year after my eczema rashes subsided to prevent my skin from getting too dry, triggering any flare-up in future. It suits dry, scaly and sensitive skin. It contains oatmeal. Unless you are allergic to oatmeal, I think it will be a good lotion to use as well.
